Rugby Dude and I had a fabulous time on the long weekend. 4th of July was our 2 year anniversary if you can believe that! I can’t believe it’s already been two whole years!!! Crazy how fast time flies- especially when you’re with someone so fabulous!

We decided to drive somewhere we both had never been- so Crested Butte, CO it was! I have not been anywhere that beautiful in a long time, and in all honesty- I did not want to leave. We drove into town and the party was waiting for us. There must have been every single resident of the town on the street that day, a parade, live music on the street, great food and drinks. It was a blast. Fireworks that night were set off below the mountain; it was nice to be a part of such a great community and small town USA.

Saturday we drove up through a ghost town called Gothic and decided to hike up to Copper Lake past Jacob Falls but took a tiny detour when the trail was washed out. It was really beautiful but we were on a trail that I didn’t feel comfortable with. RD was good at making me feel safe for a while. We hiked through dense brush and through streams along the river. We came across an abandoned cabin that looked like something had broken in the door recently. There was still snow along the way, and the mosquitoes were intense- you couldn’t stop walking without being swarmed. We got off the trail a bit and stopped to take a picture of the river when I saw a bear print in the mud- I was not happy about that and freaked out a little. I wanted out of there right then! When we finally found the trail, the rain and hail came in and we decided to call it a day, and hope we didn’t get struck by lightning!

That night we popped a bottle of ’96 Dom Perignon that RD had been carrying around with him for a few years. We decided to celebrate our anniversary and open it- and it was fabulous! I have never had Dom before so I didn’t know what to expect- but it was a great great bottle of champagne. I love him so much for sharing it with me on our special weekend.

We discovered that our room in the hotel was famous for being haunted after reading a newspaper article that was framed and hanging in our room. The Elk Mountain Lodge was built in 1919 as a miner’s cabin and refurbished into a cozy little hotel for us to stay in. As I was reading the article I got to the portion about our hotel and it mentioned room #11…WE ARE STAYING IN ROOM #11!!! I am a total ghost hunter freak so the whole weekend I was just waiting for something to happen but nothing did. I almost wanted to provoke it but you aren’t supposed to do that, oh well- maybe next time 

We took the extreme long way home on Sunday through Aspen and spent some more time than we wanted stuck in traffic on I70 but it was a fabulous drive. Really beautiful time of year to travel in Colorado. RD put together some panoramic pictures on his site. Check them out here.
