nerds with grass stains

Written on August 14, 2007

So here I sit, beer in hand, listening to some of my old records- dude- New Order still rocks twenty two years later… AND I am in my new house finally getting all settled in. What could be better. Its even raining outside so It cooled off quite a bit. Ahhh, this is the life.

It’s so great living with a guy because you know the first things to be set up in your house after you move in are the electronics. So we at least have music to unpack to. I just put on my Go Go’s record…the 80′s were so great. Rugby Dude just went off to practice and I have the house to myself for the first time. I love this place! We are just a block from one of the biggest parks in Denver. I can see one of the lakes from my kitchen window…so pretty! I cant wait for the fall.

Cody has been doing great for a dog without a yard. I felt sorry for him at first but he is into a routine already. We take a walk around the block every morning before I get ready for work and after he eats, RD takes him out for a walk in the afternoon, and then I take him out again after work. We have a big yard around the front of the house so we put him on a tie out and he can hang out in the yard whenever we are home. Pretty much just like it was when he had a yard- he just has to ask us to go outside now. RD has taken Cody to the park a couple times now. Im scared to because he is so big that he pulls me over a lot. Especially when he wants to get to another dog, and the park is full of dogs. I guess its like anything new- all the dogs there seem so used to just walking or running with their owners its like they are in their own little club or something. Once Cody gets used to it he will be in the club too and hopefully learn to ignore other dogs and people and run with his head up in the air, looking down his nose at the new dogs who don’t know what to do.

Now what happens is, we go for a walk lets say…if Im not paying attention and a girl and her dog comes running past us…pretty soon I’m being dragged through the grass on my belly because Cody took a fancy to playing with the running dog – who couldn’t care less about Cody and looks down its nose at him aas he trots by…because he is in the club you see. Cody will learn to fit in.

He is like his mommy- we are nerds…with grass stains.

hey jenni! sounds like things are going great for you guys! wow! you’ve got the home, the job, the guy, the dog… you got it all in the end after all that… and how ironic that it took you BACK to Denver!

as for Cody, i’d definitely say check out some Cesar Millan The Dog Whisperer DVDs — we got his dvds and book and they have helped SO MUCH with Winter!!!!!

i’ve been a new order fan for decades, too!

take care and have fun in your new house!
