i guess ill sleep when im dead

Written on May 1, 2007

Sleeping is one of my favorite things. I have been known to sleep until mid afternoon because it feels so good. And my sister will be the first to tell you I am not a morning person. Ive often thought that if there is a hell, it would involve some sort of sleep deprivation.

Well I am officially in hell. I haven’t slept an entire night in a really really reallllllly long time. Its gotten to the point where I wake up sometimes every hour in the night. And for no particular reason either. Cody doesn’t sleep in my room anymore, I have white noise- which I need, I don’t drink caffeine after 3, I just don’t know what the deal is? Its almost becoming surreal.

Ive had conversations with Rugby Dude that I don’t remember parts of, and even he notices. Last week he asked me if I was alright- “sure I am” I said. Then he told me I was being a bit weird lately ha ha. I guess the lack of sleep is affecting me in ways I don’t even notice. Last night I was so tired I could hardly talk, speech slurred, and couldnt remember my vocabulary.

I had a dream the other night that I went to work sat down and completely spaced out, and when I came to it was the end of the day. I realised that I had slept through the entire day! I freaked out that I had been snoring or drooling, and did anyone notice? When I think about that now I wonder- was that really a dream?

I thought I was hallucinating last night in the back yard. I thought I was seeking stars, until Cody chased one. I realised it was fireflies.

I snapped at RD even. It almost made me cry. I just need one good night of uninterrupted sleep.

So I went in search of some sleep aids. When I didnt find any at the grocery store the pharmacy reccommended taking Benadryl. Huh? I guess- yes it makes you drowsy…but thats not what it was made for. I got some Unisom finally from Walgreens. I only took half last night because I was scared of the after effects in the morning. It helped a bit- but I still woke up three times in the middle of the night. Ugh…tonight I guess its a whole one.

Can lack of sleep kill you? because Im starting to feel like Im on the brink of it. I guess I will sleep when Im dead.

I am the same exact way with lack of sleep. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I didnt sleep for 9 days straight. I couldnt think, couldnt function and just felt over all stupid. I adore sleep!

I uaually take 2 unisom because they dont work that well for me…but start with a whole one. Good luck!

UGH! Sleeping problems blow! I have heard of other ppl taking Benedryl for sleep also. I think it is pretty common. Granted, THATS not what it is used for, but you will never know til you try. IF it is your last resort, give it a try. I used to work swing shifts and always claimed that sleep was “overrated”, but truth be told if my sleep gets interuppted(waking up for no reason) thru the night I am a mega bitch! Good luck and I hope you get some much needed beauty rest. ;)

A doctor once prescribed Benedryl for me for sleep problems. But honestly, gal — if this keeps up, go see a doctor. Please?

Okay, so I finally made it here. :) I also created a Wordpress blog of my own and hope to keep it up and running. There’s nothing there yet so don’t even bother giving it a glance because you will be highly disappointed.

    As for your sleeping issue:
I think I would go ahead and go see a doctor. They say people have problems sleeping when they are stressed or worried about something, but this has gone on way too long I think. I hate those vivid dreams too because you wonder, “Oh god, did that actually happen?!” If it was a good dream and you realize it was not real then it sucks but if it was bad then you are relieved.

I have this problem often, bad side effect of third shift working. I have a permanent stash of TylenolPM that usually works for me. I tried the Unisom and didn’t like it, it had some nasty lingering effects. Good luck!!!

benedryl works great as a sleep aid. i know people who swear by tylenol pm. me, i have a constant prescription for ambian. when i can’t sleep, i can’t sleep. i’m like you, i see nothing wrong with sleeping until the afternoon. i need my sleep and i suffer without it. take a whole pill, all the OTC sleep aids have such a little amount in them it’s like nothing. i can’t even take them, they don’t work for me, have to have the ambian.

jenni I am not sure if my last reply went through this system. Anyway…… I would sugges Amien or Lunesta. They help you fall asleep fast, and there is no hangover the next day like you get with unisom or benadryl. Just watch out for the memory loss. Make sure you take the pill in bed before you go to sleep. There is a little memory loss issue I would be happy to discuss. But….. it is a restful sleep, and it does the job.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have questions. And…. watch the alchol and medication combo.
