he scares me sometimes

Sometimes my dog scares me: hes so smart.

So here’s the story:

Pretty much every weekend when I wake up unless there is a Rugby Dude in my bed, there is a Cody in my bed. Both are very snugly yes, but one is very hairy and likes to lick my face until I wake up. Cody likes to do that too but not every morning…ha ha (kidding). This morning Cody snuck up into my bed as he does every morning when I wake up, trying to get me out of bed with little nudges and friendly growls. This morning I just didn’t not want to get out of bed, it was chilly and I didn’t have anything to do so I wanted to stay in bed for as long as possible. Cody decides when this happens that he will do anything in his power to get me out of bed, so he normally runs to grab a discarded sock, or toilet paper roll from the trash…but this morning he grabbed one of my hair elastics.

I wear them almost every day, after work I put my hair up and then when I’m ready for bed I throw the rubber band on the floor next to the bed. Not unusual for Cody to grab something strewn next to the bed to get my attention. I have learned not to chase him when he has something he shouldn’t because if I do that it turns into and endless game (hence the never-ending holes in my socks and underwear) so…I didn’t not chase him.

Instead I sat on the edge of my bed watching him and said “oh you found one…I was looking for those all over, thank you” and he dropped it! I was so surprised and happy I gave him as much praise as I could muster that early in the morning. He took off down the hall and back as I was putting up my hair, and before I knew it…I had three hair bands in my lap…

Scary…has he really been listening to me all these times I talk to him like a person? Anyway, at least someone knows where all my hair bands went.

Well…after all, he is a labrador _retriever._ He’s just doing the job he was bred to do! ;)

Have you seen the movie “Fluke”…the story about a Dog who remmebers when he was a human and his journey back home?
A beautiful film for those of us who know that there is more to the God~Dog word connection than just a few letters!……;)

Ahhh I jut love Cody so much – Its his fault we know have a huge wolf in our house lol
They understand exactly what we say they just choose to pretend otherwise – Amber is going thru a teenage phase of pretending not to hear when i call her !!!

I am still new to this site and stumbled across this story by accident. I’m really glad I did, though, because my dog, TJ has a similar habit and steals socks as a game. I just wish he was as clever as Cody and brought them back!
