the humdrum

Its official, I’m old and boring.

Last night, after almost no sleep the night before, I was in bed by 8pm.
At about 8:30 my phone rang- it was my dad.

“Are you in bed already!?”

Yeah, I didn’t get much sleep last night

“Well I was going to let you listen to Josh Groban live but if you’re too tired then…”

Nope! I’m awake!

It was mom’s birthday yesterday and dad took her to the Josh Groban concert in Dallas. He held the phone up for me for the first few songs- wasn’t that sweet? I’ve known he bought her the tickets since before Christmas and I’ve been busting at the seams! Everyone knows I’m so bad at keeping secrets :) it was such a relief when he finally told her- I didn’t have to worry about blurting it out accidentally anymore.

When I called mom yesterday to wish her happy b-day she told me about their weekend. They went downtown for a St Patrick’s Day street party; green beer and a band called The Kildares. Yes, its true- my parents have a more exciting night life than I do!

The other day I found myself on MySpace answering a comment from my sister. She said “Where is my sister?” and I found myself answering with a long drawn out remark about the job, yard work and mowing…I’m so boring! Yard work? What happened to the days when I could write back “oh I’m sooo hung over! Me and so and so went out last night and…” I’ve become that lady alone in her house with all the cats, but instead of all the cats I have one huge dog. Sigh

What is up with me these days? I blame it on the time change. I am still not used to it. I feel tired when I go to sleep and tired when I wake up, and might I add- getting up when it is still dark should be a crime against humanity. I still feel like I’m getting up at 5am instead of 6, and pretty soon the sun will still be up when I want to go to bed! Doesn’t make any sense to me.

I will feel better about my social life when I finally move back to Denver. I was never any good at making new friends here in Austin. Aside from friends at work, but do they count? I never want to do things outside of work with co- workers…by the end of the day I’m usually sick of them and want to get far far away. There’s a weird culture here- it’s a lot different than Denver I’ve found. People say Texans are warm and welcoming- and they are right… but after that everyone goes right back into their circles. In Denver you can strike up a conversation with just about anyone without worry of snootiness, but here it seems like (the girls at least) are really cold and snotty. There are exceptions to the rule- I did have a nice lunch today with one of my co-workers. She’s new too and also a transplant from Cali so we have some things in common. So that was a nice change from eating at my desk.

Hope fully I will be able to get out of this boring stage of my life when I move, especially if I am closer to Rugby Dude and some of my old friends there. RD is coming to visit me this weekend! That is definitely something to be excited about. I’m so glad that we have been able to see each other a few of times in the last couple of months. I can’t wait to be nearer to him, just to be able to see him whenever I want. And to have him only be a car ride away instead of a plane trip from state to state will be so awesome! Until then I guess I will live vicariously through other peoples exciting lives, alone in my house, with all my cats…er I mean Cody.

Jenni! I just wanted to stop by and say I think I will have to get on your little gift soon, because I think that would cheer you up. Gifts are always fun right!? ESPECIALLY when they come in the mail!

    *Love*
