working girl

I made it out alive.
First day of new job was great! It felt really good to actually get up early and have something to do all day for once in four months (although I didn’t sleep a wink last night!) It was a bit daunting at first when I met Destiny in the ENORMOUS lobby of the building I work in, the place is like Trump Towers for Pete’s sake. it took us an hour to get through security paperwork and to take some safety tests before she handed me off to the third floor HR department.
I met with some familiar faces as the four girls I interviewed with last month greeted me with warm welcome. I was led around the floor and introduced to about a thousand people who I probably wont remember tomorrow, but that was nice. I was given a tour of the facility and it took almost an hour and a half to get through it all. The place is huge! I’m not used to working in such a large building, I am a small business girl.
I was given my own personal cubicle in an expansive cubicle city on the third floor. I even have my own name plate! I had to take a picture for my security badge and floor pass, (which I have to wear around my neck at all times) and a parking sticker. I felt very official by mid afternoon. After a few problems getting me logged into the system on my computer, I was off to lunch with my supervisor.
She was very nice and treated me to lunch in the cafeteria (another huge area with anything you could dream of eating- and it changes daily!) I’m loving this by the way, since I left my old job and stopped eating fast food Ive lost about ten pounds. Having a salad bar every day will be fabulous for me! We had a good conversation- a little weird at first because she is my boss, but I loosened up after a while.
When I got back to cubicle city I was handed an org chart of over 250 names that needed to be changed in the system “yesterday”. Super! But I didnt know what the system was, where to find it, or how to use it. After I was handed off to about four different girls, I knew what I needed to do and I was off to work. It was already about 1:30 at this point however so I know what I will be starting my day with tomorrow.
The company is a Korean company and there are a lot of Korean people working in the building. Two of which work directly across from me in cubicle city. Apparently they come to America, move their families out of Korea to work for the company for five years and then they go back. Ex-patriots of sorts I guess. But they are a totally different culture, I will tell you that. I am sure I will have many stories as the days go on, but I was already warned by a couple of the girls to watch out for their strange loud talking, fist pounding, and close talking- its just how they are.
This should be interesting! to be continued…
