I’m still not used to the corporate world.
Last week went by so fast! I can’t believe its Tuesday again already. That’s one thing that’s great about an actual “real” job…the more work you have the faster the day goes by. I am still getting used to it however. The other day I forgot to flash my badge at the guard before driving into the parking lot and he chased me for a second waving his arms in my rear view mirror before I stopped. Duh. I’m lucky he didn’t taser me.
There sure is a lot of wasted time in corporate world. I sat for almost a full day last week with absolutely nothing to do- and I didn’t have internet access! The only web page I was allowed to access was the company site, and that gets old after half an hour. It wasn’t until today that I was actually put on a project and work started rolling in. Now suddenly I am already behind.
I still haven’t figured out the girls that I work with. Why are girls so hard to understand? I almost wish I worked with all men, at least Id know what was up with them. All the girls seem just a little too nice, if you know what I mean. Are they being genuine? There is just something fishy when someone loses all their email contacts and just smiles through it. And then all the girls gather around to see if she is okay, and pat her on the back for being such a great sport. Its almost like I work with Stepford wives. They are all the same! They all have the same cute phrases, they all seem to wear the same color schemes on the same day, and they are all sickeningly sweet. I think there’s something fishy going on. HR Robots with a plot to suck my soul.
Lunch is interesting. There are cliques within my department and they all sit seperately and talk in low voices. Of course they all eat the same thing. This must be the time when the robots gossip. Its just like high school; the cheerleaders dont sit with the drill team, its just the rules. And then when lunch is over, everyone is gushy with friendship all over again. I, however, choose to sit with the weirdos in the back of the cafeteria and read my book…Yep- just like high school.

I can totally relate! I’m a big nerd at heart, too! LOL
Congrats on becoming an aunt! I’m glad things went well for your sister, even if it did take a while.
For all of those reasons and more, I’m glad I work with men! I must have missed some girl-training along the way because I have no clue as to what makes them tick. “Them” – like I’m not one of them – but I’m not! Ask any of the guys I work with!
Congrats again on your adorable little nephew – start collecting the pictures now that you can bribe him with when he’s 16!! LOL!
I know where you are coming from! At any rate — you are only there until you move back to Denver. You can deal with them for that long! ;)
There is something that happens when working in a corporate environment. Kind of like the “dormitory effect” (which, by the way happens too). People start caring too much about the people we work with – even when we dislike them. Sometimes being overly nice is used to hide the dislike – while not really hiding it at all. Sometimes the concern looks like niceness, but it’s really about not wanting the person to become their freaked out self.
Kind of a self-preservation from bitchiness disguised as caring.
